There are many misunderstandings surrounding an important issue coming to a state near you. The National Popular Vote Plan supports reforming--not abolishing or rendering irrelevant--the Electoral College.

The plan would replace the current stateby-state winner-take-all rules with an interstate compact. It preserves the Electoral College by allowing states to exercise their exclusive authority to allocate electors in any manner they deem fit. This state right is clearly set out by our Founding Fathers in Article II, Section I of the Constitution.

The plan doesn't go into effect until states totaling a majority of the Electoral College--270 or more electoral votes pass the agreement. When triggered, the states in the compact award, in a block, a majority of electors to the candidate who wins the most popular votes in all 50 states. This guarantees the presidency to the candidate who wins the most popular votes.

National Popular Vote solves some very real problems and ensures the candidate earning majority support from the American people is elected president. It also makes certain that a vote for president in my home state of Minnesota always...
