Dear CLF Friends,

There is wisdom in the old saying, you are what you eat. When you visit a place, you can learn a lot about it by talking about and eating its food. For New England, however, that means we have become a region with fewer farmers (and fishermen), more imports, more roads and more health problems. Our regional food system is weak. This is a problem CLF aims to fix.

CLF and CLF Ventures are working together to shape and foster the development of a robust New England regional food system. In an article in this issue on this work, the question is raised: "What would that look like?" It's a good question.

Our current, unsustainable agriculture system underlies many of our problems: the national obesity epidemic, our energy intensive and polluting farm infrastructure, and economic hardship and inequity. A robust, sustainable regional food system would provide jobs, sequester carbon, keep money local in local economies, reduce waste and...
