ILS Co-Chair

Welcome International Law Section (ILS) members and subscribers! The Section's continued outreach in the first half of 2019 demonstrates the best of the ILS membership and Executive Committee. Our commitment as Co-Chairs is to bring in new members, develop new leaders, and open the door to broader participation.

The first half of 2019 was marked by many great opportunities for our members, and many more activities are planned for the months to come. Some highlights of ILS's activities are below. We look forward to your continued engagement with our dynamic Section!

Friendship Agreements: ILS continues to expand its relationships with foreign bar associations.

We entered into new friendship agreements with the Czech Bar and Malaysian Bar, renewed our friendship agreement with the Barcelona Bar and Dai-Ichi Bar, and are working toward an agreement with the Milan Bar.

Our friendship agreements with foreign bar associations allow ILS members to network with international attorneys both at home and abroad:

  • In May, a group of ILS members traveled to Japan for a conference with the Dai-Ichi Bar Association.
  • In June, ILS members presented a webinar in conjunction with the Marseille Bar on Bias in the Workplace, comparing European Union considerations and regulations of professional conduct with those of California.
  • In October 2019, ILS members will travel to Prague for a Multi-Bar Delegates Conference co-hosted by the California Lawyers Association (CLA), ILS, the Czech Bar, and the American Bar Association International Section. We encourage all ILS members to join us for this special opportunity, which will involve MCLE-approved presentations about key international legal issues, a chance to meet members of several foreign bar associations who will join us at the conference, tours of legal and cultural sites, and a friendship agreement signing ceremony with the Czech and Malaysian Bars. Please see below for additional details. Registration runs through August 31. An orientation is scheduled for registered delegates during the upcoming CLA Annual Meeting in October, room and time TBA.
