LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
The American Criminal Law Review is proud to present the Volume 62
Symposium Issue, Disability and the Criminal Legal System. Our Symposium
aimed to promote conversation around an underrepresented, yet deeply important
topic for many interacting with the criminal legal system. From police response, to
pre-trial and post-release conditions, to prison accommodations, people with disabil-
ities face unique challenges within the criminal legal system that require institutional
safeguards to ensure people receive proper care. The Symposium and accompanying
Issue aim to foster more dialogue surrounding the (often lacking) standard of care that
people with disabilities receive while challenging preconceived notions about the
criminal legal system. We hope this Issue inspires students, scholars, practitioners,
and activists to create a more just world that provides proper care and accommodation
to people with disabilities.
The Editorial Board and Staff of Volume 62 want to express appreciation for
everyone who made the Symposium and its accompanying Issue possible. Thank you
to the practitioners, students, and guests who attended the Symposium in November
2024. We would also like to thank Kate Gloe, Senior Symposium Editor, and Lucy
Kalar, Editor-in-Chief, of Volume 61 for their leadership in laying the groundwork
for this Symposium. Additionally, we would like to thank Samuel Weiss who, with his
support, proposed this idea and guided us in putting together a successful and enlighten-
ing Symposium. Thank you to Jon Corn and Meaghan Charlton, co-presidents of
Georgetown University Law Center’s Disabled Law Students Association, for
their co-sponsorship of the Symposium and assistance in pulling the event together.
Finally, we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Sophie Gelber, Senior
Symposium Editor of Volume 62, for her immense dedication and exceptional work
ethic in making this Symposium possible.
We hope you enjoy this Symposium Issue of the American Criminal Law Review.
Thank you for reading!
Sincerely,
Alyson Brusie
