On behalf of the Joint Management Committee (JMC) of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations, I write to inform you of recent changes in the organizations, the committee's role, and our goals and projects for 2020.
The associations recently accepted the resignation of our former executive director, friend, and colleague, Patrick Flaherty. With Patrick's guidance and direction, our associations: (1) formed comprehensive strategic plans for both the CBA and the DBA; (2) saw a growth in membership while almost all other voluntary state bar associations around the country had losses; and (3) successfully, and within budget, moved into a new, more modern space with advanced technological capabilities. We join our members in thanking Patrick for his expertise and dedication and wish him success in his future endeavors.
The JMC was formed in the mid- 1940s when the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations decided to hire and share a part-time secretary. Today, it comprises 13 members: the presidents, presidents-elect, immediate past presidents, and treasurers of the respective associations; the DBAs senior vice president; two CBA at-large members and one DBA at-large member appointed by the respective presidents; and the JMC chair, who is appointed by the CBA president in odd-numbered years and by the DBA president in even-numbered years.
The JMC
was established to select the executive director and to make
studies and recommendations on problems impacting joint
operational matters of both associations, including staff
compensation and benefits, division of costs, office policies
and procedures, and any other issues referred to it by the
president, governing board, or executive council or executive
committee of either association.
