Dear Members:

I hope you were able to attend the Annual Meeting. You cannot beat the ability to network and to get top-notch MCLE credits for the money.

In this issue of Big News, we are rolling out a new member benefit: Self-study MCLE. Our plan is to have one every issue. (Two this issue!) You are already reading our fascinating articles. Now, right after you finish reading them, you can take a twenty-question true/false test, submit your answers, pay your $15 fee, and you will have earned one MCLE credit - sometimes even in those hard-to-find specialized requirements. Over the year, you can earn four hours of credit - one third of the minimum - just by reading Big News, which you are already doing. We hope that you will find this new feature valuable.

In this Issue of Big News, we have a broad range of interesting articles. Of course, we have Part II of "Specializing Law Practice: Excellent Service, Efficiently Delivered" by Chris Toews. Part I appeared in Issue No. 3 for 2015, and in Part II, Chris takes the concepts set forth in Part I and suggests how to use them in the real world.

We have two articles on gender-related issues. In "Gender Equality Sought with New Legislation," Cynthia Elkins lets us know about a new statute that strengthens California's equal pay requirements. This is a must read for those of us who advise businesses - even if we do not give labor and employment advice. Then, in "Recognizing and Addressing Implicit Gender Bias in the Arena of the Solo & Small Firm," Renée Galente makes us look at ourselves carefully for more subtle, but nonetheless invidious, examples of gender bias. (Renée's article is one of our articles eligible for MCLE self-study credit.)
