TASTES on 17th and Downing brings a delightful addition to the neighborhood with a terrific wine list--offered by glass, flights or bottles and small plates that tempt all. Open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch, the place is cheerful with exposed brick, hand painted tables, artwork on the walls, and a fabulous patio complete with an open pit fireplace. Don't miss: salumi platter, crab cakes and tuna salad.

TWIGS WINE BAR AND RESTAURANT is located next to the huge, very popular Tipsy's Wine and Liquor Store on C-470 and Bowles. The place is warm and friendly with comfortable seating, a huge focal bar and open kitchen. The wine list changes frequently with choices from very reasonable to those special wines that one would love to try. The menu ranges from pizzas to delicious entree type dishes. Don't miss: the cheese plate, braised short ribs and petit lamb burgers.

THE WINE EXPERIENCE & WORLD CELLAR: The Southlands Mall is huge, and nestled in a perfect spot is this charming restaurant/wine store. The Wine Experience Cafe & World Cellar is a must. The wine shop is seen as you enter, separated from the dining area with a half wall next to the restaurant. The dining area is beautifully designed with an open kitchen and a separate bar area as focal points. The wine list is extensive with many offerings by the glass. The food is the star as Matthew Franklin shows off his creativity and talent in the kitchen. Start with iron skillet sizzling shrimp, a salumi plate or divine artisan cheeses from the "small" section. Tuna tartar with avocado, crab cakes, crispy flash-fried calamari with sweet and spicy sauce and pizzette are some incredible "medium" plate offerings. Entrees include pork loin with potatoes and black olives, chicken with hoisin sauce, and duck breast with Chianti. Don't miss: the cheese souffle, halibut with risotto, and tuna with noodles.
