The Legal Services Corporation is a private, nonprofit organization established by the Legal Services Corporation Act of 1974, as amended
(42 U.S.C. 2996), to provide financial support for legal assistance in noncriminal proceedings to persons financially unable to afford legal services.
The Corporation is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors, appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. Each member serves for a term of 3 years, except that
