Co-led by Jose Madera and Johnny "Daody" Rodríguez, The Latin Giants of Jazz (LGJ) simply gets better with age. The LGJ's members--an all-star cast of musicians who were formerly featured with the Tito Puente Orchestra--take the Latin big band format to new heights, with hip arrangements and impeccable execution. The opener, Lo Que Traigo Es Salsa, sets the tone with a cooking mambo featuring the vocals of Frankie Vásquez, who is in top form throughout the album. The voice of background singer Cita Rodríguez on Ahora Mismo adds a nice contrast to the sound and proves that she is a force to be reckoned with, as a sonera. The surprising arrangements were penned by Madera, Ricky González, Sonny Bravo, Ray Santos, and Perico Ortiz.
