L.A. Chapter Meets with IRS District Directors.

The Los Angeles Chapter held its Annual Liaison Meeting February 11 with representatives from the Los Angeles and Southern California Districts of the Internal Revenue Service. Chapter President Randy LeVan of Conexant Systems gave an overview of the mission of TEI and its purpose at both the national and local levels, as well as a summary of the various industries represented in the Los Angeles Chapter (based on a survey prepared by Chapter Programs Vice President Greg Breen). IRS District Director Steven Jensen (Los Angeles) provided an update on the IRS restructuring. Acting District Director Joe Brimacombe (Southern California) discussed managing the IRS into the next decade and gave an update on IRS performance measures.

Wendy Pfeiffer, Internet Business Director at Candle Corporation, made a presentation on technology's effect on business and the E-Business Initiative. Steve PonTell, President of La Jolla Institute, spoke on the future of the L.A. economy and businesses.

Following a reception and lunch, Bill LaVere (Countrywide Home Loans) discussed technology in managing the tax department. Bill designed and maintains the website for the Los Angeles Chapter at http:// home.earthlink.net/~blavere/tei/. A question and answer period followed.
