Gov. Tony Knowles has introduced a bill he said would add to the tourism potential of the Independence Mine State Historic Park in the Hatcher Pass public use area.

"Everyone in this community and across Southcentral Alaska knows the enormous tourism potential of Hatcher Pass," Knowles said in a recent speech to the Palmer Rotary Club. "The bill I will submit to the legislature proposes a land exchange with Alaska Hardrock Inc., which owns underground tunnels in the historic park."
