King Cove officials are pursuing construction of a second hydroelectric project at Delta Creek. The fishing community, with a population of 800, is located 625 air miles from Anchorage. In 1994, a $5.7 million hydroelectric facility started producing power from its 800-kilowatt turbine and generator at Delta Creek. Today, more than half of the city's annual power demand of 4 million kilowatt-hours is met by hydroelectric power. The city has saved money on diesel fuel purchases and is paying down debt on the hydroelectric plant.
