Neighborly Service With Nationwide Connections

KeyBank in Alaska has grown through expansion and acquisition of established, familiar institutions like Alaska Pacific Bank in Anchorage, First National Bank of Fairbanks and Alaska State Bank. But its roots go deeper-back to 1891 when B. M. Behrends opened his small banking office in Juneau. Today, KeyBank customers are served by 180 women and men from 17 Key-Centers throughout Alaska.

"Our customers know we are as big as they need us to be and as small as they want us to be," declares District President Brian Nerland with a broad grin. Those small-town, friendly relationships begin right at the front door. "We're like a bank within a bank-part of a national financial service company, KeyCorp, with $81 billion in assets plus a full range of local services and products."

Long-Term Ties

Gary Koch is Senior Vice President and Alaska District Retail Leader. He has been in Alaska banking for 24 years and three members of his department are each nearing two decades of banking service in Alaska. "We are as Alaskan as we can be," exclaims Koch, "and we like to greet our customers by name."

Business Banking is under the guidance and oversight of Senior Vice President David Hamilton, himself a longterm Alaskan. "The only way we stay ahead in business is to proactively provide meaningful solutions and superior service. From leasing and lending to investment banking and asset management, it's how we've satisfied our customers and helped build hundreds of businesses over the years.

In a recent national survey of customers, KeyBank was rated No. 1 in overall bank satisfaction. (The Barlow Associates Middle Market Banking 2001 Survey.) KeyBank in Alaska was in part responsible for the superior rating nationally.

Both the retail and business banking groups in Alaska have been designated the No. 1 teams in the national KeyBank system.
