Kentucky is preparing to become the 20th state to offer a prepaid tuition program that will help families afford college by guaranteeing the cost of tomorrow's tuition at today's lower prices. Under Kentucky's Affordable Prepaid Tuition (KAPT) plan, individuals interested in assisting a Kentucky beneficiary--child or adult--can open a KAPT account in which tax-free contributions are made either in a lump sum or in monthly installments to purchase tuition at current rates. The accounts are held in a trust fund that commingles all contributions in order to maximize investment returns.
