Keep your company healthy: think twice before cutting benefits.

As Utah struggles during today's economic conditions, many employers have reduced or suspended company benefits, including health insurance. While it may be tempting to cut health benefits, especially "extra" benefits, like dental and vision offerings, you may ultimately end up doing more harm than good.

According to the Society of Human Resources Professionals (SHRM), employees consistently rank health insurance as the most important benefit, above vacations, holidays and all other additional offerings. The simple truth is offering health benefits helps retain high-quality employees. And it ultimately helps your company's bottom line: better health increases worker productivity and enhances a company's performance.

Even if you are already covered under a specific plan, keep your eyes open for better benefits. Let your employees know that you are considering changing plans; ask for feedback about the current plan and their needs. If you find a plan that offers better benefits at a price you can afford, subscribe to it as soon as your current contract allows.
