Kansas representative has gone 'paperless' too.

Dear Editor:

I appreciated your articles on the use of technology in legislative offices in the June 2003 issue of State Legislatures. As a freshman legislator and the youngest woman in the Kansas Legislature, I started the year by going "paperless." When constituents write letters, my intern calls to get their email addresses. When an agency sends its annual report or a briefing, I return it, requesting a Web site URL or electronic copy. I send a weekly e-mail newsletter during the session and do "play-by-play" updates from the House floor when we are in veto session.

My constituents love the frequent contact (but not so frequent as to be annoying) and are comfortable dropping me e-mail when it is convenient for them. The positive response has been overwhelming, and I am looking into running a paperless campaign with an on-line contribution tool. Thanks...
