Kansas Legal Services Helps 2,843 Survivors of Abuse and Their Families in 12 Months

Kansas Legal Services, in a project provided by IOLTA grant funding from the Kansas Bar Foundation and the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), has helped 2,843 crime victims, survivors, and their families escape the trauma of domestic abuse, sexual violence, stalking, and crime, in the period of October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024. The families included 4,498 children and 2,560 women. KLS helped these Kansans in all parts of the state through its 11 field offices. KLS attorneys spent 14,098.20 hours in legal assistance through representation and advice, as well as providing education and referrals to help survivors access needed services such as health and medical care, transportation, housing, and resolution of legal barriers to security.
