Lawyers and bankers, working together, bring much needed funding to programs supporting access to justice. Interest collected on trust accounts in the Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts program (IOLTA), provides direct legal services for low-income Kansans. Programs that are funded by IOLTA include programs assisting domestic violence survivors, disability rights, elder law, and general civil legal services.
In 2024, the IOLTA program provided $180,000 to support nonprofits recommended by the IOLTA Committee and then approved by the Kansas Bar Foundation (KBF) Board of Trustees. The KBF IOLTA program aims to provide funding to civil legal services programs that have a statewide reach.
In appreciation for 112 Kansas financial institutions providing IOLTA accounts to Kansas attorneys, the KBF selected two to recognize this year for their outstanding service and commitment to the IOLTA program.
