Last year, the mother-daughter team of Barbara and Cheryl DeYoung upgraded a neighbor's handmade board game called Bump and turned it into a business in the process.

On the DeYoungs' slickly crafted boards, players start with four cat's-eye marbles and hands of five cards, and then start trying to advance their marbles more rapidly than their opponents based on the cards they play.

Ka Bump can be played by up to six players at a time; the more players, the more fun, Barbara said.
