The National Institute of Justice is in the process of developing voluntary standards for robots used in law enforcement applications, according to Justice Department officials.

"We expect to have the robot standard completed in 2006," said Chris Tillery, senior program manager for the NIJ's office of science and technology. "Three to four years is the standard gestation period."
