WHEN LEE CARAS FIRST HEARD ABOUT CLF, she immediately grasped the importance of our mission. As a trust officer for a Boston law firm, Lee appreciated CLF's unique approach to the issues facing New England's environment and communities: "Legal advocacy is the power tool."

Lee joined while visiting CLF's Web site, something nearly 500 people do every day. And, like a large number of CLF's donors annually, Lee supports CLF's work though online donations. "I've always been an outdoors person, and deciding to join to support topnotch legal advocacy for the environment in New England was a no-brainer for me."

Online philanthropy is appealing for a number of reasons. "It's immediate, it's a tax receipt and no check gets lost in the mail. These are benefits for both me and CLF," Lee says. And it's catching on. According to a 2006 study of nonprofit organizations, the population of online donors has grown by 101 percent over the past three years!
