Judge Daniel Foley was one of the judges for the 27th Annual We the People National Finals at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. He reported, "It was inspirational. Wonderful students, teachers, parents, coaches, and judges."

Gary Shigemura, Doug Codiga, Steven Howard, Alan Fujimoto, Mark Shklov, and Gerald Sumida attended the annual Inter-Pacific Bar Association ("IPBA") meeting in Vancouver, Canada in May. In this photo, Hawaii attendees, Gary and Carolyn Shigemura, Doug Codiga and Yong Ok Houle, Steven Howard, Alan and Yoko Fujimoto, Mark and Cheryl Shklov, and Gerald Sumida, get together after the IPBA Gala Dinner to share their Aloha. The IPBA's next annual meeting will be in Hong Kong, May 6 -9, 2015. The IPBA is an international association of business and commercial lawyers who live in, or otherwise have a strong interest in, the Asia-Pacific Region. The IPBA Annual Meeting features programs on contemporary legal and current topics, continuing legal education, networking opportunities, and social events. Many HSBA members have been active in the IPBA over the past 25 years. Malia Emerson Schreck became a shareholder and director of Lyons, Brandt, Cook & Hiramatsu. She joined the firm as a law clerk in 2004 and became an associate attorney in 2005. Ms. Schreck plans to continue her practice in civil litigation with a concentration in employment, medical, and insurance defense matters.

Margaret Masunaga has been chosen to receive the 2014 Nelson Award recognizing her continued exceptional service to the ABA. The award will be presented at the ABA's Annual Meeting in Boston at the Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division's Award Reception on Friday, August 8, 2014.

Sara E. Coes, an attorney with more than a decade of legal experience with business and transactional matters in Asia, joined Damon Key Leong Kupchak Hastert. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and joins the firm's Business and Commercial Law Practice Group. Prior to joining Damon Key, Coes was most recently a General Counsel for Honeywell International, Inc. in their Asia Pacific headquarters in Shanghai, China. She received her law degree from Columbia University School of Law.
