Lung Cancer Concept Award (DOD)
Scope: The Defense Department’s U.S. Army Medical
Research Acquisition Activity seeks applications for the
Lung Cancer Concept Award announcement.
Deadline: Pre-applications, May 27, 2020; proposals,
June 10, 2020.
Funds: Approximately $1.92 million total for
approximately 12 Concept Award applications.
Eligibility: Unrestricted.
Areas: DOD said Concept Award applications must
address at least one of the nine areas of emphasis:
identifying innovative strategies for prevention of the
occurrence of lung cancer; identifying innovative
strategies for the screening and early detection
of lung cancer; understanding the molecular
mechanisms of initiation and progression to lung
cancer; understanding contributors to lung cancer
development other than tobacco; identifying innovative
strategies for the treatment of lung cancer; identifying
innovative strategies for the prevention of, recurrence
of or metastases from lung cancer; developing or
optimizing prognostic or predictive markers to assist
with therapeutic decision-making; understanding
mechanisms of resistance to treatment (primary and
secondary); and identifying innovative strategies for lung

Investigator-Initiated Translational Research
Award (DOD)
Scope: The Defense Department’s U.S. Army Medical
Research Acquisition Activity seeks applications for
the Investigator-Initiated Translational Research Award
announcement to support translational research that
will develop promising ideas in lung cancer into clinical
applications.
Deadline: Pre-applications, May 6, 2020; proposals,
July 29, 2020.
Funds: Approximately $1.92 million for approximately
three Investigator-Initiated Translational Research Award
applications.
Eligibility: Unrestricted.
Areas: DOD said this mechanism is intended to fund a
broad range of translational studies, including but not
limited to: studies advancing/translating in vitro and/
or animal studies to applications with human samples/
cohorts; late-stage preclinical work leading to/preparing
for a clinical trial (e.g., Investigational New Drug
application submission); and correlative studies that are
associated with an open/ongoing or completed clinical
trial and projects that develop endpoints for clinical trials.

Countering mis/disinformation in the Indo-
Pacic region (DOS)
Scope: The State Department’s U.S. Mission to India
seeks applications for the Support for women journalists
in countering mis/disinformation in the Indo-Pacic
region announcement to build on last year’s cross-
border media workshop.
Deadline: May 15, 2020.
Funds: $120,000 total for one award.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities and nonprot
organizations.
Areas: DOS said 50 to 60 workshop participants will
develop concrete strategies to counter disinformation and
misinformation in the Indo-Pacic region within six to eight
months of the workshop, as evidenced by collaborative
stories/articles published. Journalists will collaborate
across borders on reporting issues that are important
to their communities and to the U.S. government. The
journalists are to develop at least ve digital stories
countering disinformation and misinformation that will be
shared on the consulate’s social media platforms.
