The Defense Acquisition University (DAU), established pursuant to the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act of 1990 (10 U.S.C. 1701 note), serves as the DOD center for acquisition, technology, and logistics training, research, and publication. The University is a unified structure with five regional campuses and the Defense Systems Management College-School of Program Managers, which provides executive and international acquisition training. The University's mission is to provide the training and services that enable the acquisition, technology, and logistics community to make smart business decisions and deliver timely and affordable capabilities to warfighters.

The Joint Military Intelligence College (previously the Defense Intelligence College) was established in 1962. It is a joint service educational institution serving the intelligence community and operates under the authority of the Director, Defense Intelligence Agency. Its mission is to educate military and civilian intelligence professionals and conduct and disseminate relevant intelligence research. The College is authorized by Congress to award the Bachelor of Science in Intelligence (BSI) and Master of Science of Strategic Intelligence
(MSSI) degrees and also offers two diploma intelligence programs, at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Evening and weekend programs are available as well, one of which is specifically for military reservists and is taught by reserve faculty.
