Kentucky's longest-serving member in state history will step down at the end of his term. Representative Jim Bruce was first elected to the General Assembly in 1964. His legislative career has spanned the administrations of 10 governors. Bruce chaired the House Banking and Insurance Committee for most years since 1970, and is sponsor of the state's multi-bankholding legislation and statewide branch banking. He also sponsored Kentucky's open record and open meetings acts, for which the Kentucky Press Association honored him twice with its Freedom of the Press Award.
