On Friday, February 13, 2009, the New Jersey Chapter conducted its first meeting of the calendar year, a Full Day Winter Seminar, at its new location, the spacious, elegant Meadow Wood Manor in Randolph, New Jersey. The Seminar, cosponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, enjoyed an excellent turnout with over 170 tax executives in attendance. Planners had expected a lower turnout, given the state of the economy; New Jersey has had its share of hardships and challenges. Still, members showed their support, braving fierce winds, meteorological as well as economic, to buttress attendance. Other sponsors were Thomson Reuters, BNA, Ducharme, McMillen & Associates, Planitax, and The Amended Return Company.

For PricewaterhouseCoopers, in the state area, Jack Rothstein began with a New Jersey Tax Update, a favorite topic of Jersey tax professionals, followed by Paul Criscuolo on What You Should Know about Nexus, a topic more favored by out-of-state professionals, and finally Gregory Byrne, who related Current State Initiatives. Also for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Natalia Bulekbayeva and Pamela Campbell discussed Acquisitions and Restructurings, Stuart Finkel and Craig Grosswald spoke on Cash Tax Savings, Michael Ho and Dwaraknath Narasimhan discussed China and India Tax Developments, and Charles Markham provided an update on the new Contract Manufacturing Regulations. The topics were timely, the sessions well-attended.

A cavalcade of national speakers complemented the agenda. Jim Fuller and David Forst (Fenwick & West) mesmerized attendees with Current Developments in International Tax. Paul Frankel (Morrison & Foerster) drew an audience, providing a State Litigation Update. Michael Guariglia and David Shipley (McCarter & English) discussed Work Product Doctrine and Privileges. Other speakers were George Hani of Miller & Chevalier (IRS Controversies)...
