New Jersey Chapter--April showers bring May full-day.

On Friday, May 11, 2007, the New Jersey Chapter held its Spring Full Day Seminar at the Chapter's renowned island of retreat, the Hyatt Morristown. The meeting took place following the wettest April in the history of the State, with statewide rainfall approaching nine inches. Undaunted by the rain, President Glen Strobel assembled an impressive array of national and local speakers on a variety of absorbing topics. Membership responded, with more than 110 executives attending. As with national meetings, attendees moved freely between sessions. The Seminar was co-sponsored by Deloitte Tax LLP.

Opening the floodgates, Deloitte began the meeting with a plenary session on Mergers and Acquisitions, featuring Ken Stoops and Alicia Afalonis from the firm's New Jersey office. Ms. Afalonis warmed to the audience, articulating the M&A issues admirably. Mr. Stoops, delayed by morning traffic, provided a poised conclusion. Also appearing for Deloitte were Laura Edwards and Joel Eisenreich (Deferred Compensation), Norm Lobins (New York State Legislation), and Christopher Trump (Dual Consolidated Loss Regulations).

Recent seminars have been dominated by FIN 48. In May, the dam burst and a raft of issues appeared. Brian Andreoli (DLA Piper) presented on Mitigating Uncertainty in the New World, and Jim Alajbegu (Ernst & Young) discussed new Foreign Tax Credit Regulations. Joel Horowitz (McCarter & English) discussed Executive Compensation, while Hernan Stigliano and Art Burkard (KPMG LLP) corralled Multistate Taxation. Thomas R. May (Baker & McKenzie) covered Integrating International Operations, and Marc Simonetti (Sutherland Asbill & Brennan) provided a State Legislation Update.
