The Juneau Economic Development Council recently received the 2005 Innovation Award from the National Association of Development Organization recognizing the Hoonah Business Incubator Project.

Arctic Spirit, started in 2004 at the Icy Straights development in Hoonah, was developed to be a "train-to-own" business allowing employees the possibility of purchasing the business after extensive training in operating a retail business.
