As a child, JD Huxman learned to never give up trying to be his best. He also learned--from his parents--that parents can have just as many strengths and weaknesses as the next person, and that it is perfectly okay.

BORN Hill City, Kan., Aug. 1959; grew up in a nearby Morland, Kan., population approximately 250.

SPOUSE/CHILDREN Wife Lisa (married for 18 years), son Grant, 16, and daughter Blair, 13.

EDUCATION SUMMARY BA in Accounting and Business Administration from the University of Kansas in 1981.

CAREER SUMMARY Arthur Andersen & Co., tax staff accountant, 1981-83; The Kansas City Corp., controller, director of Acquisitions & Dispositions, 1983-86; Income Property Investment Corp., president/owner, 1986-2004; McRentals Inc., CFO, 2004-09; The Morgan Hunter Cos., CFO, 2009-present.

FEI CHAPTER Kansas City Chapter, since 2000. A board member since 2008, having served as director of Publicity and vice president of Programs and currently as chapter president.

LEISURE Spending time with my family as much as possible, especially in outdoor activities. We have some acreage near Lake Perry, north of Lawrence, Kan., where we can hunt, fish, boat, target shoot and drive ATVs. Spending time outdoors, you can't help but have an epiphany now and then about your place in this world.

I also love to smoke BBQ--we have a Morgan Hunter Smoke & Hire team that competes at the annual American Royal BBQ contest--as well as to play golf, though it's difficult with all of our kids' activities.

TIME MANAGEMENT I try very hard to make sure I've not over-committed myself at the expense of my family. With family my top priority, it's easier to say "no." Also, I use checklists, and love to see an item completed and crossed off my list at day's end.

STRESS MANAGEMENT Exercise is a great stress reliever, which I try to do two to three time each week, mornings or at lunch. Having gotten older, I enjoy low-impact exercises, such as swimming (although I am not a very good swimmer).

Relaxing with a good book and listening to classical music seem to work pretty well. My faith is generally a great stress equalizer.
