Hawaii State Bar JournalJanuary 2010Off the RecordAndy Winer received an appointment from the Obama Administration to serve as the Director of External Affairs for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). In this position, he has responsibility for developing NOAAs constituent outreach strategy with environmental nongovernmental organizations, business and industry groups, academic institutions, and state and local governments. In particular, he is working on issues including the establishment of a national climate service and the development of a national ocean policy. Winer has traveled extensively on behalf of NOAA, and he recently chaired a meeting of the Coral Reef Task Force in Puerto Rico.

Mei Nakamoto resumed her solo practice in December, after spending over two years as the "of counsel" family law attorney with Burke McPheeters Bordner and Estes. Now in her eleventh year of working primarily in family law, she will continue practicing in the areas of divorce, child custody and advocacy for domestic abuse victims.

The HSBA Government Lawyers Section announced the results of its elections for the 2010 Government Lawyers Section Board: Matthew Coke, Chair, Adrianne Heeley, Vice-Chair and Chair-Elect; Lily Ling, Secretary; Delanie Prescott-Tate, Treasurer; and Directors: Rock Ley, Kyle Chang, Amy Esaki, and Levi Hookano.

West Hawaii Bar Association ("WHBA") hosted a Foreclosure Commissioners' Talk Story on December 1, 2009. The Talk Story event with led by Third Circuit Chief Judge Ronald Ibarra assisted by WHBA secretary Victoria Kalman. Eighteen local attorneys attended the Talk Story and exchanged experiences and concerns during the lunch time roundtable .
