James H. Taylor, a long-time member of the Institute and a valued member of the Atlanta Chapter, died unexpectedly on April 3, 2010.

After graduating from Pace University, Mr. Taylor's decades-long career in tax included positions with Travelers Insurance in Hartford, Connecticut, and, most recently, with ING in Atlanta as Assistant Vice President, State Tax. Throughout his time in the profession, Mr. Taylor was active in TEI at the local and Institute level (primarily through the Institute's State and Local Tax Committee). His chapter activities included service as 2001-2001 President of the Connecticut Valley Chapter, where he was a member (and eventually chair) of the chapter's State and Local Tax Committee. After moving to Atlanta, Mr. Taylor rose to become a Vice Chair of the Institute's State and Local Tax Committee. He was also active with the Council on State Taxation.

Although Mr. Taylor focused mainly on state taxes, he also developed a broad knowledge of federal and international tax issues. His fluency in multiple areas of tax, along with his understanding of both tax return...
