Saxophonist Perelman, a native of Sao Paulo, long ago abandoned the prototypical suave sound associated with his instrument through the cool jazz-inspired bossa nova for the raw-at-the-edges tonal quality and interpretive manner associated with Argentina's Gato Barbieri and such North American avant-garde jazzmen as Albert Ayler and Ornette Coleman.

Rather than take the jazz road well traveled, Perelman, who counts classical composer Gunther Schuller among his growing list of fans, has opted to focus his considerable energy and creativity on a most unlikely source of artistic inspiration--Brazilian children's songs.
