IV. Length of Coverage

In an unusual set of facts, in South Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Ins. Co. v. Courtney,¹³⁴ the court of appeals and the supreme court held that an insured could recover (by stacking) UIM benefits for an accident which occurred after the subject insured vehicle had been totaled (and replaced) and the insurance policy expired because the policy holder never affirmatively requested cancellation of the UIM policy.
