Preface

Oil and Energy Trends: Annual Statistical Review is intended

to bring together in a convenient form the salient quantitative

data on the world-wide oil industry during the recent years.

Most of the tables give figures for 2016, but in some cases such

up-to-date information is not yet available; in others, it is only

available on a partly estimated basis and is included without

further distinction because it is felt that the margin of error is

small.

The data are drawn from a great variety of sources: governmen-

tal, industrial, and international organizations. In a few cases,

there are inconsistencies in the data because of differences be-

tween sources. They arise largely from different definitions

used for what is ostensibly the same subject-matter.
