Instructions to Authors
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Journal of Marriage and Family is a peer-reviewed journal
published by the National Council on Family Relations.
Submit manuscripts online at http://mc.
manuscriptcentral.com/jmf. The site contains links to
instructions for manuscript preparation (Instructions and
Forms) as well as an online user’s guide (Get Help Now)
for help navigating the site.
Submit only previously unpublished work.
The Journal of Marriage and Family has a policy
of anonymous or masked review. Manuscripts should
not include authors’ names, institutional aff‌iliations, or
contact information on the title page.
Authors should make every effort to see that the
manuscript itself contains no clues to the authors’ identity.
A manuscript submission fee of $25 is required.
Authors are prompted for payment information at
http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jmf.
Prior to publication in JMF, all authors must sign a
copyight agreement.
Comments on articles published in JMF are evaluated
in the same way as other manuscripts. If the comment
is accepted for publication, the author(s) of the original
article will be invited to reply. The comment and reply
are published simultaneously in the Feedback section of
JMF.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
JMF follows an adaptation of the guidelines of the Publica-
tion Manual of the American Psychological Association,6th
Edition.
Double-space all parts of the manuscript, including text,
headings, abstract, references, and tables.
Use Microsoft Word and a 12-point font.
Keep tables and f‌igures to a minimum. (See the APA
Publication Manual for advice about when to include
tables and f‌igures, pp. 125–128.)

tables.asp. From the website, you can download sample
tables in Word, and use them as templates for your own
tables. The sample tables are also available in PDF format.
JMF articles do not include footnotes.
The reference list must match work cited in the text.
Taken together, abstract, text, references, tables,
f‌igures, and any appendices should be approximately
30–35 manuscript pages. JMF also publishes brief
reports or research notes that should not exceed
20–25 manuscript pages. Please see our website

Please save line artwork (vector graphics) as Encapsulated
PostScript (EPS), Word, or PDF f‌iles, and bitmap
f‌iles (halftones or photographic images) as Tagged
Image Format (TIFF), with a resolution of at least
300 dpi at f‌inal size. More detailed information on
the submission of electronic artwork can be found at
http://authorservices.wiley.com/prep_illust.asp.
Authors will have the opportunity to make corrections to
proofs. Proofs must be returned within 72 hours of receipt
to ensure publication in the next available issue. More
than f‌ive corrections will result in a charge.
