Israel wrong, Ashrawi right.

Hanan Ashrawi ("Where We Went Wrong," February issue) is an articulate woman who cares deeply for the safety of her people. She pleads for a nonviolent resistance to Israeli encroachment into the Palestinian homeland. She believes the suicide bomber approach destroys her people's high ground.

For shallow observers of the Middle East, like George W. Bush, Israel is completely justified to respond to the attacks with gunships and tanks. However, the suicide bombers are the last sacrifice in the face of Israeli theft and violence. For me, the Palestinian struggle in defense of their land will always be on the high ground. I term the state of Israel a rogue state for not obeying one single United Nations resolution.

The hard-line supporters of the Sharon government taunt their Jewish critics by asking, "Where are the Palestinians who denounce the suicide bombers who kill innocent Israeli civilians?"
