Investing in Utah: Private Placement Investments Continued Increasing in 2013.

Venture capital, private equity and angel investments in Utah companies were up in 2013, continuing a positive trend of year-over-year growth since 2010. That's according to the Utah Deal Flow Report, which is issued annually by the Mountain West Capital Network.

"The story is consistent growth and consistent momentum," says Drew Yergensen, chair of the deal flow committee for MountainWest Capital Network. "Every year we've seen an increase in the number of deals and the dollars in the deals. As the economy grows, Utah continues to attract more and more investments?' As in previous years, high tech industries saw the most activity. Software had the most deals, with 48, for a value of $295 million. Healthcare and medical devices followed with 39 deals for a value of $110 million.

Many of the large investments made in Utah companies in 2013 came from outside the state, .and more and more private equity firms are being headquartered or opening offices in Utah, Yergensen says.
