Investigators at 4 state universities receive awards.

Eight awards have been made to investigators at four state universities by the Materials Assembly and Design Excellence in South Carolina Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research known as Made in SC / EPSCoR as part of itsScientific Advocate Networkprogram, which aims to increase diversity in materials research and education.

The awards, with a maximum budget of $10,000 each, provide funding for three primary goals: engaging underrepresented students in research for Made in SC; recruiting diverse graduate students; and support of scientific conferences.

The recipients and award areas are:

Thomas Crawford, University of South Carolina: How recording medium properties affect the self-assembling of magnetic nanoparticles onto recorded nanotemplates.

Eric Davis, Clemson: Supporting involvement of underrepresented minorities and women in research related to stimuli-responsive polymers.

Julia Frugoli, Clemson: Stem All In graduate recruitment support.
