Introduction to ScholarOne
Manuscripts™
Michael Ehrlich
ScholarOne Manuscripts is
an online software tool from
Thomson Reuters that jour-
nals use to manage the review,
revision, and workflow of
submitted manuscripts. Origi-
nally designed to facilitate the
double-blind peer-review process,
it can be customized to accept
other manuscript types. Today,
ScholarOne is used by over
3,400 journals to provide end-to-
end workflow management.
The Journal of Corporate
Accounting & Finance (JCAF)
has been using ScholarOne
Manuscripts since late 2015 for
academic submissions requiring
peer review and has expanded
use of the ScholarOne tool to
accept all JCAF manuscripts
starting with this issue. All
JCAF authors will now be
using ScholarOne for submis-
sion, revision, and tracking
of their articles. Editors and
reviewers will also be using
ScholarOne for their work on
behalf of JCAF. This introduc-
tion is written to help explain
the changes that current and
prospective authors can expect
in using this new web-based
journal management tool.
Authors typically begin
the process of submitting a
manuscript to JCAF by going
to the journal home page,
which is hosted as part of the
Wiley Online Library and can
be found by Googling “Journal
of Corporate Accounting and
Finance” or at this url: http://
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/
10.1002/(ISSN)1097-0053.
Once there, they can navi-
gate to the “Submit an Article”
link under “For Contributors,”
which is found under the
“Journal Menu” in the left-
hand column. First-time
authors are strongly encour-
aged to navigate to the “Author
Guidelines” (found just above
“Submit an Article”) and care-
fully read the JCAF Editorial
Guidelines before submitting.
The “Submit an Article”
link will redirect submit-
ting authors to the Scholar-
One JCAF site at https://
mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jcaf,
where they will be invited to
log in if they are already regis-
tered users, or will be directed
to create an account for new
users of JCAF ScholarOne.
Some authors may already be
familiar with ScholarOne from
other journals, but will need to
create a JCAF account if they
are new to JCAF. The creation
of a new account is an easy
three-step process of entering
your name/e-mail address, insti-
tution and address and institu-
tion information, and selecting
a user ID and password.
Once logged into the JCAF
ScholarOne site, selecting
Author” from the top naviga-
tion bar will bring one to the
Author Dashboard.” The
submission is started by click-
ing “Begin Submission” and
will bring the author to “Step 1:
Type, Title, and Abstract.” At
this point, authors must indi-
cate the type of manuscript
they intend to submit. Different
submission types will generate
the required workflow for that
type. For example, “Blind Peer
Review” is the only type that
will require authors to submit
a separate title page from their
main manuscript, as this is
required to maintain the double-
blind review process. For a
“Commentary” like this one, a
title (Introduction to Scholar-
One Manuscripts) and running
