WITH SEVERAL Caribbean count ties reeling from a succession of hurricanes and tropical storms, efforts have intensified to mobilize greater international support for reconstruction and disaster preparedness.

OAS representatives participated in a donors conference held at the World Batik on October 4 to help Grenada, where Hurricane Ivan left dozens of people dead and caused massive devastation. Prime Minister Keith Mitchell of Grenada, who spoke at the conference, said participants front different countries and international agencies had agreed on the need to support his country--"not tomorrow, but now."

"One of the most rewarding aspects of what has transpired in Grenada through Hurricane Ivan has been the absolute unity of effort coming from the Caribbean countries and the people of the region," Mitchell told a news conference.
