The Insurance Regulation Committee (IRC) of the ABA
Tort Trial and I nsurance Practice Se ction (TIPS) serves
as one of the premier for ums for lawyers, reg ulators,
and indust ry professionals focu sed on the rapidly evolving
world of insura nce regulation. For decad es, the committee
has brought tog ether a diverse group of pract itioners—
including i n-house and outside counsel, aca demics, and
former regu lators—to disc uss developments shaping the
insura nce industry at the stat e, federal, and global level s.
Insura nce regulation is exper iencing significa nt transfor-
mation dr iven by emerging technologie s, evolving consumer
expectat ions, and increasin g regulatory scr utiny. The
committ ee’s program ming and publication s regularly addr ess
critica l issues, including a rtificial intel ligence and algorit hmic
underw riting, cyberse curity and data pr ivacy, climate and
catast rophe risk, market conduct reg ulation, insurer i nsol-
vency and receivers hip, and the intersection of in surance
regula tion with federal polic y.
The commit tee continues its long trad ition of presenting
cuttin g-edge program ming at TIPS conferences a nd webi-
nars. The se programs brin g together regulator s, industry
leaders, and pr actitioners to exam ine current regul atory
trends and pr actical challen ges facing insure rs and their
counsel. In add ition to nation al programm ing, the commit-
tee frequentl y collaborates with othe r TIPS committees a nd
outside orga nizations to develop joint prog rams addressi ng
issues that c ross practice areas, i ncluding reinsura nce, excess
and surplu s lines, life and healt h insurance, and ins urance
coverage liti gation.
A hall mark of the IRC is its commitmen t to thought
leadershi p and scholarship. Throug h newsletters, publica-
tions, and cont ributions to the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice
Law Journa l annual survey of in surance law developments,
committ ee members regular ly provide analysis of key
regula tory developments aecti ng insurers and polic yholders
