Instructions to Authors
The Journal of Operations Management encourages submission of research articles in
the field of operations management. The Journal will publish articles on a wide variety of
topics. In addition to the traditional topics of production and inventory control for multistage
and process manufacturing companies, the articles will address topics such as process
design, manpower scheduling, plant location, layout, and the behavioral implications of
various operations management strategies. Interfaces between logistics and production
management and between the design of production systems and the human element will
also be explored. A high priority is given to papers reporting on actual application of
proposed theories or concepts in an organization.
All articles should be preceded by an executive summary, rather than an abstract. An
executive summary is different than an abstract in that an abstract merely describes the
contents of the paper while an executive summary presents all of the work as well as its
conclusion.
All manuscripts should be typed on 8%” by 11’ paper, double-spaced throughout, including
executive summary, references and footnotes. The title should be as short as possible and
should appear in three places in the manuscript: on a title page which gives the authors’
names and addresses, above the executive summary on a separate page, and at the top of
