Inspire! Grants for Small Museums (IMLS)
Scope: The Institute for Museum and Library Services
seeks applications for the FY2021 Inspire! Grants for
Small Museums announcement to help small museums
implement projects that address priorities identied in
their strategic plans.
Deadline: Nov. 16, 2020.
Funds: $1 million total for up to 25 awards ranging from
$5,000 to $50,000.
Eligibility: A unit of state, local or Native American tribal
government or a private, nonprot organization that has
tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code and
is located in one of the 50 states of the United States of
America, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth
of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American
Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana
Islands, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the
Federated States of Micronesia or the Republic of Palau.

Museum Grants for African American History
and Culture (IMLS)
Scope: The Institute for Museum and Library Services
seeks applications for the FY2021 Museum Grants for
African American History and Culture announcement to
support projects that nurture museum professionals, build
institutional capacity, and increase access to museum
and archival collections at African American museums
and historically Black colleges and universities.
Deadline: Nov. 16, 2020.
Funds: $2.73 million total for up to 22 awards ranging
from $5,000 to $250,000.
Eligibility: A unit of state, local or Native American tribal
government or a private, nonprot organization that has
tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code and
is located in one of the 50 states of the United States of
America, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth
of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American
Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana
Islands, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the
Federated States of Micronesia or the Republic of Palau.

Areas: IMLS said funding will support projects
including but not limited to: cataloging, inventorying,
documenting and registering collections; digitization
of collections designed to enhance outreach, expand
access or improve collections management; developing
collection plans, interpretive plans or strategic plans
using consultants, researchers and other sources of
professional expertise; implementing recommendations
or action plans from planning activities; exhibition
development, design and fabrication; and interpretive
and educational programs, product development and
delivery; among many others.

Museums Empowered (IMLS)
Scope: The Institute for Museum and Library Services
seeks applications for the FY2021 Museums Empowered
announcement to support a special initiative of the
Museums for America grant program with the goal
of strengthening the ability of an individual museum
to serve its public through professional development
activities that cut across various departments to
generate systemic change within the museum.
Deadline: Nov. 16, 2020.
Funds: $3 million total for up to 20 awards ranging from
$5,000 to $250,000.
Eligibility: A unit of state, local or Native American tribal
government or a private, nonprot organization that has
tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code and
is located in one of the 50 states of the United States of
America, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth

evaluation of programs, practices and products that
can help the museum yield indicators and measurable
