Estimating Children’s Soil and Dust Ingestion
Rates for Exposure Science (EPA)
Scope: The Environmental Protection Agency seeks
applications for the Estimating Children’s Soil and Dust
Ingestion Rates for Exposure Science announcement for
transdisciplinary research to develop or apply innovative
approaches/methods to improve the estimates, better
characterize the variability and reduce the uncertainty
concerning chemical exposures via soil and dust
ingestion for children aged six months through six years.
Deadline: Aug. 5, 2020.
Funds: $8.1 million total for up to six awards.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; nonprot
organizations; and state, local and Native American
tribal governments; among others.
Areas: EPA said to improve the ability to assess
chemical exposure via soil and dust ingestion, four
key pieces of information should be considered: the
chemical content of location-specic soil and dust,
quantities of soil and dust ingested, frequency of soil
and dust ingestion episodes, and prevalence of soil and
dust ingestion among a specic age group.

Region 8 Wetland Program Development Grants
(EPA)
Scope: The Environmental Protection Agency seeks
applications for the FY2020–FY2022 Region 8 Wetland
Program Development Grants announcement to develop
or rene state/tribal/local programs that protect, manage
and restore wetlands.
Deadline: Aug. 19, 2020.
Funds: Approximately $2.77 million for Track One and
approximately $1.19 million for Track Two.
Eligibility: States and tribes can submit applications
under either Track One or Track Two, while eligible local
governments, interstate agencies, intertribal consortia
and eligible universities that are agencies of a state
government can only submit applications under Track
Two .
Areas: EPA said there is a set of core elements,
actions and example/suggested activities that together
comprise a comprehensive wetland program: monitoring
and assessment, voluntary restoration and protection,
regulatory approaches including Clean Water Act
Section 401 certication and wetland-specic water
quality standards. Under Track One, applicants must
submit applications for either: (1) carrying out grant-
eligible actions from a current EPA-approved Wetland
Program Plan (WPP) or (2) developing or updating a
WPP (and, if they so choose, also carrying out actions
that develop or rene a wetland program. Under Track
Two, applicants must submit applications that will
develop or rene a state, tribe or local government’s
wetland program by either carrying out one or more
action(s): (1) under a core element(s) from the Core
Elements of an Effective State and Tribal Wetland
Program Framework or (2) that advance the grant-
eligible actions articulated in an EPA-approved WPP.

Innovative Advanced Concepts Phase I announcement
for studying visionary, yet credible, advanced concepts.

Funds: Phase I awards are up to $125,000 for a typical
duration of up to nine months.
Eligibility: Unrestricted.
Areas: NASA said concepts are solicited from any eld
of study that offers a radically different approach or
disruptive innovation that may signicantly enhance or
enable new human or robotic science and exploration
missions. Proposed concepts must be framed in terms
of a mission context that clearly identies scientic
or technical advancements and associated benets
compared to current approaches.
