The chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee initially felt the creation of a space force "was not a good idea." Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., said he was originally concerned about the cost of the new organization.
"We're doing a good job now and so I want to be sure that we're going to be able to do a better job," he told reporters recently.
President Donald Trump has proposed that the space force initially reside within the Department of the Air Force.
