INFORMATION FOR CONTRIBUTORS
Human Resource Development Quarterly (HRDQ) is the rst scholarly journal focused
directly on the eld of human resource development (HRD) sponsored by AHRD (the
Academy of Human Resource Development). It provides a central focus for research
on HRD issues as well as the means for dissemina ng such research. HRDQ recog-
nizes the interdisciplinary nature of the HRD field and brings together relevant
research from related elds, such as economics, educa on, management, sociology,
and psychology. It provides an important link in the applica on of theory and research
to HRD prac ce.
Prior to submission authors are strongly encouraged to review past volumes of
HRDQ and other journals sponsored by the Academy of Human Resource
Development (AHRD) www.ahrd.org to iden fy the poten al contribu on of their
work to the HRD research and literature base.
In general, HRDQ publishes the following types of contribu on:
• Empirical scholarly work that addresses the theore cal founda ons of HRD, HRD
research, and evalua on of HRD interven ons and contexts, whether qualita ve,
quan ta ve or mixed methods.
• Methods papers that demonstrate or discuss a quan ta ve, qualita ve, or mixed
method with relevance to HRD and related elds that contribute to the advance-
ment of research methods and scholarship in the HRD eld.
• Conceptual papers are considered appropriate for publica on in HRDQ only when
their purpose is to develop and jus fy an empirical research agenda which can
s mulate future research avenues and methods in a new area.
Ar cles that speci cally focus on theory and integra ve literature reviews are
typically not considered within the scope of HRDQ.
Ethical considera ons
HRDQ is a member of the Commi ee on Publica on Ethics (COPE) and the Co-editors
expect that researchers will have consulted the “Ethical Principles of Psychologists
and Code of Conduct” (APA, 2002) as well as the ethical guidelines of the ins tu on
where the research was conducted. The APA Ethics Code requires that researchers
ensure approval by relevant ins tu onal review boards and obtain informed consent
from all par cipants. Ful lment of these requirements should be noted in the Method
sec on.
Duplicate and piecemeal publica on of data
Manuscripts submi ed to HRDQ should not have been published or currently submit-
ted elsewhere. Submi ed papers should not overlap signi cantly in focus, content or
data. Where work submi ed to HRDQ is part of a larger study it is important that the
submission addresses dis nct ques ons and contributes new knowledge. In such
cases the authors should clarify the rela onship between the larger study and the
data included in the current manuscript or the ques ons that are addressed in a cover
le er to the Co-editors. Suitable procedures for ‘blinding’ references cited in the text
that refer to the larger study should be used. In such instances the le ers XXXX in the
text cita ons should be used. Names will then be inserted should the manuscript
