50,000 More Hoosiers

Adjusted 1990 population figures have been released, showing that Indiana experienced an increase of slightly more than 50,000 people in the past 10 years, a growth rate of nearly 1 percent.

The number of Indiana counties that showed a decrease in population during the last decade outnumbered population-growth counties by 49 to 43. Growth in Marion County and other more populous counties, however, made the difference in the state total. Six of the state industrial centers with 100,000 or more residents were losers, while eight large counties experienced increases.
