I just read the summary of the independence process in South America. It was a very interesting article, but the author does not sufficiently emphasize the importance of the October 9, 1820 liberation of the city of Guayaquil in accelerating that process. San Martin was having economic problems in Peru, and Bolivar was in the north putting out the fires of counter-revolution and trying to hold Great Colombia...
