Container cargo movements in ports and port zones of Latin America and the Caribbean increased by 7.7% in 2018 from 2017, according to a report from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). Almost half of the 118 ports and port zones (66) in 31 countries improved their performance compared with the previous year. The 10 countries with the largest volume represented 84.1% of total throughput. In 2018, 53.2 million TEU were handled, which represented 7.1% of worldwide operations versus 6.6% the previous year.
