LONG RECOGNIZED As the place to go to see the latest developments in photography worldwide, Houston's FotoFest continues its tradition of leadership from March 3 through April 3, during the Eighth International Month of Photography.

Held every other year in downtown Houston, Texas, FotoFest blankets the city, from the renovated downtown to the suburbs, with photographs from around the world. The grand opening on March 3 opens a month-long run of exhibitions, seminars, and even street performances.

This year photography fans don't have to travel to Houston to view the latest exhibitions. FotoFest is linked to twenty-one different festivals in fifteen countries through the Internet-based Festival of Light. The Festival of Light, which opened on St. Lucy's Day, December 13, 1999, runs for an entire year, bringing together selections of photography from FotoFest's companion events in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, and Venezuela.

This year FotoFest continues its tradition of excellence with an exhibition of Mexican photographer Mauricio Alejo's work at the festival's Vine Street Studios building. Alejo's intriguing images begin with such everyday objects as forks, yet they end in surprisingly realistic bouquets of flowers.
